NIDA Website Targeted to People with Limited Reading Skills
When the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) decided to create its first website targeted to individuals with limited reading skills, I conducted formative research at a community center that conducts literacy workshops for adults. Through one-on-one telephone and in-person interviews, I garnered information about the target audience’s computer skills, their access to computers, sources they considered most credible, and any personal and/or family experiences with drug use. After analyzing the formative research results, I wrote and presented to the agency a summary report of findings and recommendations.
